What’s On
Mizuka Ueno on Stage
Mizuka Ueno on Stage will thrill you once again.
Mizuka Ueno on Stage, The Tokyo Ballet’s special gala featuring Mizuka Ueno, started in 2023 in celebration of her receipt of the Medal with Purple Ribbon by the Japanese government. Following the huge success in 2023 and 24, the gala will return in March 2026 in Tokyo, Fukuoka and Osaka.
In Tokyo, Mizuka Ueno and The Tokyo Ballet will be joined by the Company’s long-time friend, Friedemann Vogel, Principal Dancer of the Stuttgart Ballet, who, in 2024, celebrated his 25th anniversary with the Stuttgart Ballet. He is a regular guest with us: he performed on eight consecutive Japan tours of the Stuttgart Ballet since 2002 as well as at several editions of the World Ballet Festival. He has also guested at The Tokyo Ballet’s performances, among which was Giselle in 2009, where he and Ueno performed together for the first time. Although they danced together several times since then, it will be their second performance together in Japan, in Swan Lake Act II Pas de deux, after 17 years’ absence.
All the four programs for Tokyo, Fukuoka and Osaka are composed of The Tokyo Ballet and Mizuka Ueno’s iconic pieces. Ueno is the only female dancer in Japan who had the permission to dance as La Melodie, the lead role in Boléro, by Maurice Béjart himself.
